Welcome to Gate 55 Community Centre: Programmes & Services

Gate 55 is home to the Sighthill Library. We also host a wide range of local groups and activities, with everything from kids' activities, judo and carpet bowls to knitting and yoga. There are advice and support services here, and a community food growing group in our allotment on-site. There's also an art room, and meeting rooms for hire. Monday

  • 1pm - 3pm: Drawing & Painting (All levels - starts 26th Jan 2026). Book here or call 0131 556 7978.

  • 6.30pm - 7.30pm: Colouring In Group at the Library: relieve stress and relax at the start of the week.

 

Tuesday

  • 9.45-10.45am: Pilates (starts 17th March 2026). Book here or call 0131 556 7978.

  • 11am-12pm: Stretch & Flow (starts 17th March 2026). Book here or call 0131 556 7978.

  • 1.30am - 3.30pm (September-April): Carpet bowls for over-55s: come and make new friends, no experience necessary: £1.

  • 4.00pm: Tiger Tales & Read Write Count at the Library for ages 4+

  • 6pm - 7pm: Zumba: keep fit with Terri. Contact Terri for prices and booking.

  • 6.30pm - 8pm: Narcotics Anonymous: Open to addicts and those who think they may have a problem. Recovering addicts run the support sessions and help each other stay clean.             

 

Wednesday

  • 9.30am- 11.30am: Mums' Career Workshops: run by COSS. Come and be part of a small friendly group working with an experienced employment advisor to help build the skills you need to get back into work.   • 10.30 - 11.30am: Chair and mat-based Yoga Class with ECY - free (All levels) . You must be referred to this class: email here for more info or call 07966 502 085.

  • 12.30 - 1.30pm (first Wednesday of the month only): Councillor Ross Mackenzie's surgery - come and get help from your local councillor on any issue where the Council can help or where there is an issue with Council services. 

  • 1.15pm - 3.15pm: Spanish Language Classes (starts 28th January 2026). Book here or call 0131 556 7978.

  • 1pm-4pm: Advice appointments with CHAI (Community Help & Advice Initiative) advisor Adelaide - get independent and confidential advice and support with benefit applications, debt management, employability and more. Free: booking essential. Phone 0131 442 2100 to make an appointment in advance.

  • 4.30pm - 5.30pm: Scribblers Art Club for ages 8-12 at the Library  (every 2 weeks)

  • 6.30pm onwards: Fantasy Book Group at the Library  (last Wednesday of the month)

  • 4pm - 5pm: Children's board games at the Library for ages 8-12 (every 2 weeks)

  • 6.30pm - 7.30pm: Adult board games at the Library (every 2 weeks)

  • 6.30pm - 7.30pm: Teen board games for S1-S6 at the Library (every 2 weeks)

  • 6.30pm - 7.30pm: Bounce Exercise Class - keep fit with Terri. Contact Terri for prices and booking.

  • 6pm - 7.15pm: Judo 5-16 years for mixed ages and grades: £1 per session

  • 7.30pm - 8.30pm: Judo seniors and higher grade juniors: £1 per session

Thursday

  • 1.30pm - 3.30pm (September - April): Carpet bowls for over-55s. Come along and meet new friends, no experience necessary. £1 including a tea/coffee and biscuit.

  • 5pm - 8.45pm: The WHY Project Senior drop-in for ages P7-S4: have fun playing games, sports, arts and crafts, and lots more. Contact kevin@thewhyproject.org.uk for details.

  • 6pm - 7pm: Zumba: keep fit with Terri. Contact Terri for prices and booking.

 

Friday

  • 10am - 11.30am year-round: Gate 55 Community Food Growers: come and join the gardening group and help to grow veg, salad and fruit using organic, no-dig methods, for the whole community to benefit from and enjoy. All levels of gardening experience welcome and no commitment to come every week. The group also meets on Thursday evenings from April-October. Email here for more info or visit their blog.

  • 10.45am - 11.15am: Bookbug at the Library: songs, stories and rhymes for under-5s with their carers

  • 2pm - 4pm: Knit & Natter at the Library: bring along your woolly creations and have a chat over refreshments.

  • 3.30pm - 5pm: Taekwon-Do for ages 9+ up to adults and families. Book here.

  • 6pm - 9pm: Open All Hours: Exercise, sport and activity based youth club for S1-S6 pupils. Get active and socialise in a fun, inclusive environment.

 

Saturday

  • 11am - 12.30pm: The WHY Project Senior Drop-In for ages P7-S1: drop in for a breakfast roll, baking, sport, PS4, board games, or chill with friends.

  • 12.30pm - 2pm: The WHY Project Senior Drop-In for ages S2+: drop in for a breakfast roll, baking, sport, PS4, board games, or chill with friends. Contact kevin@thewhyproject.org.uk for details.

Around the Centre

At Gate 55 we have a range of facilities including the library (Sighthill Library), a sports hall, an art room, meeting rooms and other space for hire (including a children's room), and an outdoor growing area. Come in!
