Welcome to Gate 55 Community Centre: Programmes & Services

Gate 55 is home to the Sighthill Library. We also host a wide range of local groups and activities, with everything from kids' activities, judo and carpet bowls to knitting and yoga. There are advice and support services here, and a community food growing group in our allotment on-site. There's also an art room, and meeting rooms for hire. This programme brings together activities and services that support parents and carers of all ages.

Programme of Activities: Summer-Autumn 2026

Monday

  • 6pm - 8pm: Transition Youth Club: come along for pool, table tennis, food, games, sports, board games and more. Contact johnny.smith@ea.edin.sch.uk or cld-gate55@ea.edin.sch.uk for more info.

  • 6.30pm - 7.30pm: Colouring In Group at the Library: relieve stress and relax at the start of the week.

 

Tuesday

  • 9.30am-1.30pm and 5-6.30pm: Sunflower Pantry Wester Hailes. Members of the community pantry can enjoy a basket of groceries at a very low price. Open to residents of Sighthill and Wester Hailes. Please find out more and learn about how to register with the Sunflower Pantry here.

  • 11.30am to 12.30pm, Cosy Corner Coffee Morning in the Library: join us for a hot drink, friendly chat, activities and games.

  • 1.30pm-3.30pm (September-April): Carpet bowls for over-55s: come and make new friends, no experience necessary: £1 including a tea/coffee and biscuit.

  • 3.30pm: Tiger Tales in the Library : Stories and Crafts for children aged 4-7.  The first Tuesday of every month is Zoo Tales, learning about animals at Edinburgh Zoo through stories and crafts; the other Tuesdays are Tiger Tales.

  • 6pm-7pm: Zumba: keep fit with Terri. Contact Terri for prices and booking.

  • 6.30pm-8pm: Narcotics Anonymous: Open to addicts and those who think they may have a problem. 

 

Wednesday

  • 10am-12.00pm: Art: Portrait (All levels) - starts 23rd September. Please book your place in advance here.  Fee applies.

  • 10.30 - 11.30am: Chair and mat-based Yoga Class  (All levels) . You must be referred to this class: email here for more info or call 07966 502 085.

  • 1pm-4pm: Advice appointments with CHAI (Community Help & Advice Initiative) advisors - get independent and confidential advice and support with benefit applications, debt management, employability and more. Free: booking essential. Phone 0131 442 2100 to make an appointment in advance.

  • 1.30-3.30pm: Art: Watercolour Painting (All levels) - starts 23rd September. Please book your place in advance here. Fee applies.

  • 4.30pm: Gaming Group for ages 8+ in the Library. 

  • 4.30pm: Board Games for Adults in the Library.

  • 6.30pm - 7.30pm: Teen board games for S1-S6 at the Library (every 2 weeks)

  • 6.30pm onwards: Fantasy Book Group for Adults in the Library  (last Wednesday of the month)

  • 6.30pm - 7.30pm: Bounce Exercise Class - keep fit with Terri. Contact Terri for prices and booking.

 

Thursday

  • 1.30pm - 3.30pm (September - April): Carpet bowls for over-55s. Come along and meet new friends, no experience necessary. £1 including a tea/coffee and biscuit.

  • 5pm - 8.45pm: The WHY Project Senior drop-in for ages P7-S4: have fun playing games, sports, arts and crafts, and lots more. Contact kevin@thewhyproject.org.uk for details.

  • 5.30-7pm: Gate 55 Community Food Growers - gardening group, new volunteers welcome. Contact hellogate55@gmail.com for more info, or visit their blog.

 

Friday

  • 10.00-11.00am: Gentle Gardening Group with the Gate 55 Community Food Growers: come and take part in gentle gardening like seed-sowing, watering and pruning. Ergonomic tools available; children also welcome if supervised by an adult. Email here for more info or visit their blog.

  • 10.30 - 11.30am: Chair and mat-based Yoga Class with ECY - free (All levels). To be referred to this class, email here for info or call 07966 502 085.

  • 10.45am - 11.15am: Bookbug at the Library: songs, stories and rhymes for under-5s with their carers

  • 2pm - 4pm: Knit & Natter at the Library: bring along your woolly creations and have a chat over refreshments.

  • 3.30pm - 5pm: Taekwon-Do for ages 9+ up to adults and families. Book here.

 

Saturday

  • 11am-12pm: Lego Club in the Library: bring your little one to come and enjoy playing with lego at our Lego Club!

  • 11am - 12.30pm: The WHY Project Senior Drop-In for ages P7-S1: drop in for a breakfast roll, baking, sport, PS4, board games, or chill with friends.

  • 12.30pm - 2pm: The WHY Project Senior Drop-In for ages S2+: drop in for a breakfast roll, baking, sport, PS4, board games, or chill with friends. Contact kevin@thewhyproject.org.uk for details.

Around the Centre

At Gate 55 we have a range of facilities including the library (Sighthill Library), a sports hall, an art room, meeting rooms and other space for hire (including a children's room), and an outdoor growing area. Come in!
